Reviews
This hospice falls short in providing comfort care, causing discomfort for patients, their families, and even offering ill-advised medical advice. Negligence and soulless employees contribute to this unsettling experience.
Last fall, my 88-year-old grandmother with advanced Alzheimer’s was admitted under relentless hospital pressure. The hospice experience began as a disaster. Disheveled and stressed, my grandmother arrived after being disgracefully kicked out of the hospital ER. Unfortunately, no one from the hospice was available to assist with the machines and medicine. After a frustrating two-hour wait, the on-call nurse finally arrived, blaming insufficient notice. Eventually, he helped set everything up, providing temporary stability.
Desiring information, we requested to speak with the weekend nurse, Arthur, as our regular nurse was absent on weekends. As non-medical caretakers, we sought advice. However, Arthur failed to grasp our concerns. Instead of explaining equipment, medication, and proper care, he launched into an insensitive spiritual lecture, neglecting his responsibilities. He abruptly departed, citing religious views. His disheveled appearance suggested a weekend of partying.
Adding to our frustration, Arthur referred us to a spiritual specialist within the hospice. This woman, glued to her phone, arrived without a greeting. Only after we inquired did she introduce herself as the case worker. Despite seeming empathetic, she offered little assistance, connecting us to a spiritual specialist through a shoddy video call. This specialist callously discussed funeral arrangements with my grandfather, never bothering to meet us in person.
The hospice repeatedly failed to send medical professionals to check on our grandmother. Instead, they relied on powerful drugs like heroin when simple solutions would suffice. Recently, our grandmother developed a concerning infection in her uterus, marked by black discharge and a foul odor. When we reached out, it took an eternity for the hospice to send Dr. Okolo, who arrived disgracefully two hours late, without an apology. He proceeded to probe our grandmother, disregarding her condition and our concerns. After a brief examination, he dismissively claimed she was fine, belittling us for lacking medical expertise. He left without a treatment plan or medication. It’s appalling for a medical professional to abandon a suffering patient, but that’s the reality at All American Home Care.
The regular nurse has done nothing to alleviate the situation, dismissing our concerns as a result of poor hygiene, despite the evidence. It appears they purposefully neglect patient comfort. This hospice delivers some of the worst care imaginable. I urge you to choose a different hospice if given the option.
As we seek a solution, the hospice denies any problem and fails to prioritize patient comfort. We will report this hospice to the Pennsylvania Department of Health.
